Keep Your Hot Tub In Great Shape: 4 Tips

You spent a lot of money on your hot tub and want to keep it up in order to lengthen the life of your investment, but you may not know the first thing about keeping your hot tub maintained. If you aren't sure about what to do, you could hire a spa service to come out and maintain your system for you, or you can try to do the work on your own as well. Read on for a few helpful tips to keep your hot tub in great shape and working properly.

1. Add The Proper Chemicals

Just like a swimming pool, the water in your hot tub needs to have chemicals added in order to keep the water safe for your skin and your body. If you don't add chemicals, you could be subjecting yourself to a number of bacteria that could be harmful to you. Chlorine and pH need to be added to your hot tub. Read through the manufacturer's instructions to see exactly what types of chemicals need to be added, and use a water testing kit on your hot tub water to check your water so you know what needs to be added as well.

2. Wipe Down The Interior

The interior of the hot tub should be wiped down and cleaned at least once or twice per year. Drain the water and wipe down the entire inside using a hot tub cleaning solution. Don't attempt to use bathroom cleaner or any other harsh cleaners. They could do damage to the hot tub itself or could end up in your water, making it harmful to your skin.

3. Drain The Hoses

The hoses should be drained in the winter months when your hot tub is not in use. If they are not drained, the hot tub could end up freezing and cracking. Be sure to drain the entire tub and the hoses as well. The top of the hot tub should be securely in place to prevent anything from getting inside and causing damage, including more water or pests.

4. Watch Out For Damage

Keep an eye on your hot tub for any damage to the tub or to the exterior as well. Cracks to the interior tub can result in your hot tub leaking water out, or someone could get hurt when it finally breaks if someone is inside. Be sure to also inspect the cover for damage as well. Some minor damage may be able to be repaired using a professional spa servicing company.

If you have a hot tub, you should do what you can in order to keep it in good shape to help lengthen its life. If you run into any issues, or you need help taking care of your hot tub, hire Anchor Pools & Spas, professional spa servicing company for help.
